Polsinelli, an Am Law 100 firm, and Rowan TELS, a provider of tech-enabled legal services, announced today a strategic partnership in which Rowan will acquire technology developed in-house by Polsinelli and use its NLP-based features, enabled by years of patent drafting expertise, to enhance Rowan Patents. Polsinelli will implement Rowan Patents to support its extensive patent drafting and prosecution work ensuring that Polsinelli remains at the forefront of technology innovation and adoption.
As an innovative firm, Polsinelli has developed technology to support its IP practice and has seen the positive impact technology plays in delivering superior, quality patents for their clients. Polsinelli’s technology allows the skilled draftsperson to help software organize claims into portions of a patent specification using an intuitive interface in a way that ensures the specification uses terminology consistent with the claims. It sought a partner who could help advance the use of technology across its IP practice and selected Rowan Patents for its breadth of capabilities and ability to address the needs of a large patent practice.
Rowan Patents is an integrated drafting environment that provides all the elements to draft a patent and respond to Office actions. It links claims, drawings, and specifications in one end-to-end solution, automatically synchronizing them to ensure consistency. Reusing content, adhering to style guides, and other best practices are built into the patent drafting process in a natural way that helps the skilled draftsperson. This is because Rowan Patents is designed to handle patent-specific data, maintain term consistency, and automate the error-prone activities of moving, cutting, and pasting any part of a patent application.
“We are thrilled to partner with Polsinelli and to help its nationally recognized IP practice continue to deliver high quality service to its clients through technology and deep expertise,” said John Amster, Rowan TELS Chief Executive Officer. “Rowan Patents helps practitioners allocate more time to the parts of drafting and prosecution that only a highly trained patent attorney can do. Polsinelli is a leader in delivering quality in more effective ways, and we are delighted they chose Rowan to commercialize their innovative features.”
“Use of technology to improve our patent drafting and prosecution is critical to how we meet the exacting needs of our clients, and has become a competitive advantage for Polsinelli,” said Brian McKnight, a Shareholder at Polsinelli. “We were drawn to Rowan for its extensive experience, significant investments made into its software, and its ability to support the needs of an IP practice as broad as ours. Rowan is unique in their approach to preventing errors, not just identifying and fixing them. Rowan is a natural partner because we share in the objective to deliver high-quality patent applications to our clients by using an integrated drafting environment that automates error-prone activities and ensures term consistency. We know Rowan is the right long-term partner for the firm.”
