Rowan TELS, a leader in technology-enabled legal services, announced today that Dr. William LaFontaine, Jr., General Manager, Intellectual Property and Vice President, Research Business Development at IBM, has joined its board of directors.

“I am thrilled to have Bill join our team,” said John Amster, CEO of Rowan TELS. “He brings a depth of expertise that is invaluable as we build out the capabilities of our software and services platforms. His skills range well beyond legal and technology, and he will provide an important industry perspective to help us grow and serve the diverse needs of our customers.”

In 28 years at IBM, LaFontaine has been the COO for IBM’s Research division, general manager of Global Technology Services in Middle East and Africa and GM of worldwide semiconductor and technology sales. In his current role, he and his team work at the intersection of research, business units, and clients to accelerate market introduction of new technologies.

“I’ve worked with John for many years and am delighted to see his focus on bringing a true software platform to drive more cost and time efficiency in the patent creation market,” said Bill. “In addition, Rowan’s new approach to combatting anti-counterfeiting, combining technology and their ability to organize diverse companies to fight a common IP threat, can be a game-changer to help protect companies and consumers from dangerous counterfeit products. I am pleased to be involved as they help companies address complex legal challenges.”
